Agate is a kind of chalcedonite, waxy luster, translucent or transparent, conchoid fracture, hardness: 6.5-7, proportion: 2.6-2.7.

Its main composition is SiO2, and its layers are formed by the replacement between H2O and Si2O (silicic acid). For its elements blended with oxidized metal, its colors can be from very light to dark. Top-grade agates have smooth texture, vitreous and oily luster. Compared to chalcedony, the colors of agate have strong layering, clear color and obvious banding.
